Soothe Your Heart and Your Tummy: Tea Aids Digestion!

Hello my tea pets. How are you feeling? A little under the weather, you say?  Worry no more–Teato is here to tell you about yet another health benefit of tea. I am taking a break from writing poetry to my new love, and sitting down with a hot cup of herbal tea as you should be, too.

There’s a lot of chatter about all the healthy foods out there, and unhealthy foods too, and what you should and shouldn’t eat. Teato’s head spins sometimes with all the conflicting information. But I have learned that after a romantic night of dining on oysters and chocolate, I often need a warm cup of Rooibos tea to calm my tummy.

Rooibos tea, which is also called Red tea, is a South African herbal infusion with a lot of health benefits like easing headaches, clearing up skin conditions, aiding in hypertension, and relieving allergies—mostly because it’s high in antioxidants, which are really good for you. But it’s also great for helping you digest the tender morsels of your meals. The polyphenols also increase the flow of digestive juices and help your stomach break down all the indulgent food you know is bad for you, but that tastes so good.

Experts say that rooibos has anti-spasmodic agents which relieve stomach cramping. It’s teeming with vitamins and minerals like iron, potassium, calcium, fluoride, zinc, manganese, alpha-hydroxy, and magnesium. It’s also caffeine-free, so you can have it after a romantic dinner with your sweetheart without it interrupting your descent into dreamland.

Green teas are also really good for digestion and high in antioxidants, so if you prefer it, it’s not a bad choice.

So now you know my secret: a steaming cup of hot rooibos tea after dinner. It is only one of my many secrets that I’ll share with you, gentle readers. Keep close and Teato will show many more ways I love tea.
