Tea of Life: Tea Fights Aging

Greetings young Tea Students. On the long Road to Tea Enlightenment, during an idle cup of steaming herbal tea, perhaps you have thought to yourself, “How does Master Amanzi keep it together? He is so old!” Before I discipline you for your insubordination, let me tell you another tea health benefit of which I am a prime example.

As you know, tea—especially green tea and white tea–contains polyphenols, which have a lot of antioxidants. These antioxidants destroy the damaging free radicals that your cells are exposed to every day, and which sped up the natural process of aging, such as breakdown of collagen. Free radicals react with oxygen, thereby reducing the oxygen supply to your cells as well. That’s where tea comes in—the antioxidants found in green tea and white tea are at least 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA damage. This means that time wears our bodies down much slower. It is how I keep my youthful glow.

And don’t forget my sharp mind. That’s another health benefit of drinking hot tea all the time. Researchers have even published a study that suggests that regular consumption of black or green tea may help reduce the risk of degenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s. The catechins (which are also polyphenols) found in the tea help protect neurons from the hazardous proteins that destroy them.

So, young Tea students, as we follow the Path to Tea Enlightenment, I will be with you the whole way. Best not to make fun of the teacher.
