A Cup of Tea a Day Keeps the Common Cold Away
Hi Loves,
Well, let’s hope at least. I think I’m getting a cold. And you know the first thing I reach for as I snuggle under my favorite quilt to rest is a cup of nice hot tea–preferably my favorite, immune system boosting herbal teas and black teas.
Black tea and herbal teas work in their own special ways to help keep you healthy. Black teas contain a substance called L-theanine that helps your body attack bacteria and germs that can cause sickness. And herbal teas are well known to have many, many health benefits, including natural immune system boosting antioxidants.
But which to reach for first? If I know I can’t let a cold slow me down, I’ll reach for a nice cup of black tea, like Earl Grey or good old fashioned Irish Breakfast. The bit of caffeine in these teas keep me on my toes until I can finish up my work and head over to the couch to veg out watching game shows and bad sitcoms. (What? You know that’s exactly what you do when you’re sick, too!)
Of course, if I know I just need to sleep to help my body fight off the evil cold germs, I reach for caffeine free herbal teas like Peppermint or Chamomile to soothe my body aches and clogged head. Once I’m nice and relaxed, I’m sure to drift off into dreamland and wake up feeling better. It works every time.
Fingers crossed this is just a little head cold and not a keep-me-in-bed-for-a-week one. Off to put the kettle on!
OX and Tea,
Tia
